A letter from a reader -
Volunteer Ambulance Officer Run Down
Dear Sir or Madam,
In May my wife and I left Victoria, and crossed the Nullarbor ending up in Exmouth,
where we decided to spend a year. Soon after arriving, I joined the local Ambos as a volunteer driver.
For us Exmouth Ambos, the majority of our 'callouts' involve tourists and predominately, grey-nomads,
who are visibly moved, when we pick them up, to find they are being treated by volunteers who dropped their hammer,
trowel or fishing rod to go to their aid.
Most grey nomads from the Eastern States, like me, do not realise that the WA Rural Ambulance Service is manned
entirely by volunteers.
My letter is regarding one of our volunteer Ambos who was rundown on his bicycle and is now in a serious
condition in the Royal Perth Hospital.
regards,
Peter James (CaptAustralia)
Exmouth Ambulance.
